Higher Ground Roasters -Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea is an exotic cup with a bright hint of apple and a subtle wine taste. A very distinct Indonesian coffee, the Papua New Guinea is full flavored with a smooth finish. All of Higher Ground’s coffees are Fair Trade, organic, and shade grown. Fair Trade certification enables the farmers who grow our coffees to keep their family owned farms and benefit from economic and educational programs, while growing a great organic crop. Higher Ground coffees are also grown in the shade of the forest canopy—preserving ancient forests and natural habitat for innumerable species of plants and animals.

FAIRER MEANS
Higher Ground’s Guinean coops were formed in the 1990’s as a response to the chronically low prices they received for their crops. With the money provided from Fair Trade sales, the coop has been able to assist all of the family members within the coop:

•education for the children of Coop members
•construction of a meeting house for the women’s group
•provision of basic electricity and water for households

“Before I became a member of a Fair trade co-op, I was unable to look after my coffee plot due to the poor prices I received. I could not afford basic household necessities for my family. Now, I am able to get a better and more stable price for my coffee.
